Frome Town Robins’ U13s team travelled to Germany to participate in the Murrhardt 18th Annual Youth Football Tournament.
The club says, “A total of 21 players (pictured) were hosted by our twin town in southern Germany for a four-day trip, and three teams took part in the tournament on Saturday 2nd June. The tournament also saw participant teams from a second of Frome’s twin towns, Ancerre Chateau-Gontier, in France.
“Three 7-a-side Frome teams participated in the tournament, with some fantastic football being played in blistering conditions. Frome Town Robins came away with first, second and third spots in the tournament in a group of seven teams.
“There were strong performances from the Robins, whose teams fought close games for the top spot. On the winning team were Hugo Kelly, Jack Taylor, Tom Willis, Jennell Campbell, Josh Keay, Dan Eden and goalkeeper Zac Owen.
“The team was also presented with the end-of-season awards over the weekend. The worthy recipients were Filip Borek, Dom Walton, Tom Willis, Owen Monger, Harry Williams, and this year’s Player of the Year Award went to Will Osborne.
“Unfortunately, the 16 parents and coaches attending couldn’t replicate the showing from the Robins and were beaten by the both the German and French teams participating in the “dads” tournament (pictured below).
“This is the second year the Frome Robins have been hosted by our compatriots in Germany, in what is expected to be an ongoing exchange between the clubs in both Germany and France. Frome Robins Under 13 managers Leon Kelly and Rob Simenton said the tournament would be a lasting memory for the team, who were treated to hosted lunches, evening parties and a memorable day out at Murrhardt’s outdoor swimming complex.
