FROME Film and Video Club is hosting a special open evening to showcase their work and offer help to anyone with a similar interest, on Thursday 3rd March at 7.30pm at the Canoe Club Frome.
The club says, “Our aim is to encourage the art of film-making, but also to teach our members to get the best from their cameras and turn their family recordings into a more enjoyable experience.
“At the open evening, we will have a team of our best film-makers on hand to answer all your queries regarding your equipment and can help you sort out all the buttons and gizmos
“If you are thinking of buying a camera then maybe we can offer some unbiased advice on which kit would suit you best.
“If you already use a video camera, iPad, IPhone or DSLR and would like to know more about how to achieve the best from your equipment or how to edit, add music and effects or would just like to join some likeminded people then why not come along, it is completely free.
“Bring your camera, any leads and most importantly the instruction book.
“We can also have a short chat about camera techniques to improve your footage.
“You will be met with a warm welcome, a cup of tea and chocolate biscuits.”

Club chairman Ernie McKenna says “Our club welcomes all ages and gender; we have great fun both on our regular meetings and out on location! Sometimes a few of our members are asked to cover a local event and this is great experience. We do have some very experienced members who are always willing to help others with any problems”
Frome Film & Video Makers was formed in 1974 as the Frome and District Ciné Club. All the present members use video, but occasionally the film projector is brought out for a nostalgic trawl through the archives.
“The club meets every other Thursday from January to November and our meetings are from 7.30pm to around 10pm. The evenings are filled with a variety of subjects, technical, filming and showing our latest productions. We always help members to achieve the best from their equipment, whether it is a holiday or family film or maybe a drama.
“We often work together on a group project for the benefit of the town. You may have already seen our films “Welcome Home Charlie Robbins” a story about the statue of a First World War soldier being re-sighted at the Frome Memorial Theatre and also “The Wizard of Oz Guinness book of record attempt” organised by the Frome Times.
“We regularly meet with other local clubs for competitions and instructional evenings and exchange visits with clubs as far away as Weymouth.

![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
