A GROUP of travellers has moved onto the old Showfield for the second time in two years.
Frome Town & Mendip District Councillor Adam Boyden said, “I quickly informed the landowners (Frome & District Agricultural Society), Mendip District Council officers, the Police, Frome Town Council, Frome Medical Practice, Frome Collegians football club, and other local councillors. Residents had also called the police, who attended site quickly.
“It is clear that the travellers have gained entry by breaking in. Security will need to be strengthened in future.
“Mendip’s enforcement officers are dealing with this quickly, and I hope the legal process of eviction will go smoothly. I have been in touch with many local residents, and have asked them to remain vigilant and report any damage to the site”
The last time travellers occupied the site was over 2-3 weeks in June and July 2012 after the fair had been there. The waste left behind was cleared by Mendip’s contracts at a cost of £2,500.
