Frome Town Football has been preparing for the season ahead and are optimistic for the campaign ahead.
“2016/17 was very successful for the club and great things are hoped for in the new season,” said Michael Auton, the club’s corporate manager. “The Robins finished in 8th place, with 74 points, our highest position and points ever. Striker Jake Jackson was 4th highest in the league with 21 goals, only 6 less than the top scorer. Gate attendance increased 20% on the previous season. Over 5,000 people came to the SpecialEffects Stadium throughout the season watching some very exciting and entertaining football. Why shouldn’t we be optimistic!
“In addition to retaining the majority of last season’s squad, we also welcome three new players to the club for the forthcoming season. Midfielder Chas Hemmings has signed from Bath City FC, defender Ben Withey from Mangotsfield United and midfielder Joe Raynes from Larkhall. We also welcome Ollie Price to the coaching staff.
“Pre-season training will start on July 1st and an exciting line-up of friendlies have been announced. On Saturday July 15th, we welcome Chippenham Town, last season’s league champions, to the SpecialEffect Stadium at 3pm. This will be followed by League One side Northampton Town on Tuesday 18th. Kick-off is 7.30pm, with monies being raised for the SpecialEffect charity in memory of Tom Clark.
“On Saturday 22nd July, the Robins play host to our League Two neighbours Yeovil Town for a charity match to support the Jamie Mines Appeal.
“Entry for the Chippenham game will be £5 adults, £3 concessions, and for Northampton & Yeovil £7.50, £5 concessions. Alternatively, you can purchase a ticket for £15 to cover all three games and support two great causes close to our hearts. Under 16s go free for all games.
“On Tuesday 1st August, we will visit Paulton Rovers and our final home friendly will see us entertain newly promoted Bristol Manor Farm on Friday 4th August at 7.45pm, before the season kicks off officially on August 12th.
“We need the people of Frome to get behind the club and help support the Robins to fly to new heights.
