The ladies section at Orchardleigh Golf Club started off the new season with the annual captain v vice-captain challenge, which took place on 28th February.
They report, “Twenty-four ladies took part in the 18 hole competition. The individual stableford scores were totted up on each team and for the third consecutive year, the lady captain’s team were successful in beating the vice-captain’s team, with 351 points to 327. Prizes were given for the best individual scores and Audrey Holland came in with the most points on 39, Liz South was 2nd ocb with 33 and Marion Underhill 3rd also with 33 points. Despite the numerous showers, the day was enjoyed by all who took part. The competition was followed by a meal, after which the draw took place for the Summer Knockout competitions.
“On Shrove Tuesday, a pancake competition was held, which was a 9 hole yellow ball stableford event played in teams of 3 of mixed handicaps. The yellow ball was played in rotation by each team member and the score achieved with the yellow ball was then doubled on each hole and added to the other two scores. The winning team, who came in with a total of 53 points, was Audrey Holland, Christine Arnold and Rebecca Richards. After the golf, the ladies enjoyed some delicious pancakes with a choice of sweet or savoury.
