AS the country enters another period of lockdown, local charity, Fair Frome, has offered reassurances that they will be doing everything they can to maintain their vital services.
Their Food at Five takeaway service started again this week. It runs on Mondays at the Mount Community Association hut next to Christchurch School, on Wednesdays at Frome Cricket Club and on Thursdays at Trinity Church Hall all at 5.00pm.
They report, “These meals are home-cooked, healthy and free to those on low income or benefits. No referral is needed just turn up. There is always a vegetarian option available and if people let Fair Frome know, they can cater for other dietary requirements. Food at Five project means hot meals are accessible across the three main areas of town and they have been serving over 100 meals per week this year.
“The charity has also seen a huge increase in referrals to its financial assistance project and furniture bank for various items, from shoes to washing machines, as well as the food bank, with growing numbers of homeless, domestic abuse cases, unemployment and low income affecting many. The charity will again do everything it can to keep these vital services open under the new tier 4 regulations.”
One of the coordinators Lenka Grimes said, “With our wonderful volunteers and supporters we have done everything we can to keep our services running. We are one of the few frontline services to be open on a daily basis providing face to face support as well as signposting. This means we see and hear first hand the impact the virus is having on local people, financially, emotionally and health wise. This makes us even more determined to carry on, ensuring we reduce risks for our clients and volunteers as much as possible.
“We know that much of the impact of the virus is here to stay long after the vaccine has been delivered and we will be here, working with our partners to do all we can to help”.
