Farmfest & The Frome’s Missing Links Summer Fete at The Frome Independent

IF cycling is your thing, and you love live music, Sunday 5th June is The Frome Independent for you! To celebrate the start of the festival season, Farmfest will be taking over the Market Place Stage, and the amazing team behind Frome’s Missing Links will be wheeling out their Summer Fete on the Village Green!  

“The Frome Independent is thrilled to have Farmfest back to take over the Market Place Stage on Sunday 5th June,” say the organisers. “Farmfest will bring a host of acoustic acts from their upcoming 2022 programme to the market, providing a free festival soundtrack for market-goers.  

“Farmfest is a festival dedicated to the idea that the best things in life are found in small packages; it’s always been about good music, good causes, and good times – a mix of festival revelry and buzzing party atmosphere!  

“Head along to the Market Place Stage between 11am and 2pm and experience an exclusive taster of electronic, indie, folk and world music – warming up for the festival itself on 29th and 30th July. Market Makers will get a special discount on festival tickets – read on to find out more about becoming a Market Maker!” 

For the cycling fans, The Frome’s Missing Links Summer Fete will be at the Village Green (outside Frome Library) with a whole host of cycling-inspired activities for all, geared towards raising awareness about their work campaigning to improve cycling and pedestrian routes in and around Frome.  

With a pedal-powered-twist on traditional summer fete activities, you can try your luck on the Bottle Tombola – will it be a bottle of champagne, shampoo, chain lube or a sports drink? Spin the (bicycle) Wheel of Fortune for the chance of winning a prize; The Square Wheeled Bicycle returns! Can you master cycling on this improbable velocipede? Small folk can take part in mini wind-up races – choose your mini wind up toy and compete with your neighbour to be the first across the finish line – will the wheelchair beat the horse rider? Or the walker beat the car? Get winding in this multi-modal-active-travel-race!  

There’ll also be a preloved and new-but-donated sports clothing and accessories table top sale for all sports and activities, including cycling (on or off road), running, horse-riding, scooting or walking. All donations received on the day will go directly towards Frome’s Missing Links’ work – find out more from the team on market day.  

This month, The Frome Independent is supporting Frome based charity Active and In Touch – their work creates opportunities for people to make new friends and connections, and develop a sense of belonging through a matched 1:1 befriending service.  

In the run up to National Loneliness Week (13th – 17th June) they are launching their Above and Beyond Fundraising Appeal to help support over 300 people in Frome and neighbouring villages who are living alone at home.  

 Active and In Touch will be promoting the appeal outside the library at The Frome Independent on Sunday 5th June. Come and meet their volunteers and discuss any ideas you might have about how you, your family or community can support the charity. They are keen to involve as many local churches, schools, community groups or businesses as possible, and are also looking for volunteers to join the befriending service or to sign up as a community driver.  

Amongst this jam-packed line up you will also find the South West’s very best designer-makers in Market Place, Cheap Street and St Catherine’s, food producers on Stony Street and Market Place, Somerset Farmers Markets at the Boyle Cross, street food vendors along Scott Road and homes, garden and vintage experts in the Market Yard.
