The Good Heart, Frome’s only fully pay-it-forward café, is celebrating its re-opening by offering fifty hot meals free of charge.
This has been made possible by the generosity of a Muslim donor during Ramadan.
The café says, “The Good Heart aims to rethink our approach to money, and operates on the basis of people’s natural generosity and goodwill.
“Everything is offered for free, and customers are invited to give whatever feels comfortable for them towards the costs of the next person’s meal.
“Due to the generosity of the people of Frome, The Good Heart has been able to provide hundreds of free meals to people in need since it first opened in July 2018, as well as providing a modest income for the catering team at Tibetan Memories.
“The menu indicates the cost of providing each dish – generally £6 for main courses, which are all home-cooked and plant-based.”
Good Heart volunteer Alison Murdoch, adds, “Following the pandemic, kindness seems more important than ever before.
“As Amelia Earhart said: A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.”
Following refurbishment, The Good Heart now has a small meeting/function room that is currently being used as a pop-up clothes shop to raise funds for Fair Frome, Active and In Touch and the Frome Carnival.
It also offers a free daily online meditation called Heartspace. Further activities are in the planning stages, all on the theme of kindness.
The café at The Good Heart is open Monday to Saturday from 12 – 3pm and 5 – 7pm.
The address is 7 Palmer Street, Frome BA11 1DS. For reservations and enquiries contact Namdi on 07908 139244.
