The annual Festival Quiz at Frome Rugby Football Club took place last month hosted by charismatic quiz master Paul Hewitt.
After a closely fought and often hilarious contest, the winners were Fanny the Wonder Dog, with The Witty Chanters, led by Frome’s former MP David Heath, Festival Vice President, narrowly beaten into second place. Last year’s winners, The Chocolate Teapots, just managed third place.
As well as the coveted Martin Bax shield, theirs to keep for a year, the winning team took home four bottles of good wine, kindly donated by Leah Mercer of Divas Café, as well as a replica shield each.
In the interval, an unusually large number of people competed in a wild game of ‘Heads and Tails’, perhaps egged on by the prize of a bottle of French Champagne, from by an anonymous donor.
In what seems to have become an annual pilgrimage for them, The Sudbrook Cricket Club team, from Caldicot in Monmouthshire, had again crossed the Severn Bridge to join the fun. Although this time they managed to come only fifth, they were delighted to take home two raffle prizes, including a beautiful white rose bush, given by Barters Plant Centre.
Martin Bax, founder of the festival 16 years ago and now its president, was there to present all the winners’ prizes, and those from the raffle, including a much appreciated truckle of cheese from Sagebury Cheese and vouchers from Bramble and Wild and Eden Rose. He rounded off the evening by thanking Paul for a splendid evening.
