EXCITEMENT is building for the big Christmas light switch-on, which is back this year and ready to light up our town this Friday, 26th November, starting at 5pm.
Frome Town Council has been working hard to ensure that this year’s event is more dazzling than ever after the pandemic caused a hiatus last year.
The much-loved event is a staple in Frome’s calendar and is a real community extravaganza thanks to Frome Lanterns, local musicians and the exciting addition of a Christmas Market.
Make your way over to the Boyle Cross from 5pm for Frome Town Band, Rock Choir and the Frome Street Bandits.
Then watch Frome Lanterns transform the town’s streets into a magical scene thanks to the Enchanted Winter Garden lantern parade, headed by Jamma de Samba.
“We’re so excited to be able to host our Christmas Light Switch-On for all to enjoy,” said Mayor of Frome, cllr Andy Wrintmore, who will flick the switch to turn on the lights. “And with the added touch of A Little Night Market, it’s sure to get even the Grinch into the Christmas spirit.
“I’m not one for conventional Christmas gatherings, but we all know Frome is made differently and I can’t wait to see local performers do their thing and welcome you all on the night.”
The Frome Independent has organised A Little Night Market from 4pm to 8.30pm to take place alongside the big switch-on event and help you check off your Christmas shopping list. So, after the light switch-on, follow the lantern parade back round to A Little Night Market where there will be local Christmassy craft and design stalls, tasty street food, drinks and music.
If you have attended one of the Light the Night workshops or have made your own special creation and would like to join the parade, meet at 6pm at the entrance to Rook Lane, or for more information head over to fromelanterns.co.uk.
The town council adds, “Please remember road closures will be in place from 4pm, so walk to the event if possible. We also ask that everyone attending keep Covid safe by following social distancing, practising hand hygiene and if feeling unwell, not to attend.
“If you are planning on coming with children and would like to collect a lost child wristband, please drop by Frome Town Hall Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. You will also be able to receive one on the day at the lost child point, which is in the café by the George Inn.”
