If you want to know more about Frome’s past, now is your chance to find out.
Frome Community Education is running a ten-week course on the town’s illustrious and fascinating history, beginning on Monday 17th September.
The afternoon course is being tutored by local author and ‘Frome Times Past’ columnist, David Lassman, and will be held in the meeting room at Frome Library.
It will cover the history of the town from its founding by St Aldhelm, up to the present day and there will be a chance to research your own project.
David said, “The local history course has always proved very popular and can be a springboard to other things.
‘A former participant has written the book ‘The Historic Inns of Frome’, inspired by the work he did on the course, and now also contributes regularly to newspapers.
“Other past students have also had articles published in the Frome Society for Local Studies’ much vaunted yearbooks.”
David is the author of several books on the town, including ‘Frome in the Great War’ and ‘The Awful Killing of Sarah Watts’ – the latter about Frome’s most infamous murder.
His latest book, ‘Foul Deeds & Suspicious Deaths in and Around Frome’ has just been published and will be officially launched later this month.
The last two books were co-written with Mick Davis, another former student of the course and they have recently been commissioned to write an Historic Guidebook to Somerset.
