A new face has joined the leadership team at Frome and District Agricultural Society as Kirsten Penny was announced as the new joint vice-chairman of the society at their annual general meeting on Wednesday 31st May.
Paul Cary and Steve Welch were also re-elected as chairman and vice-chairman at the meeting, and Kirsten will be supporting Paul and Steve in their respective roles. Kirsten will be the first woman in the history of the society to be appointed as vice-chairman.
A spokesperson for the society said, “Having been involved with the society for 18 years and head of the equine section for ten years at the annual Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show, the directors felt her invaluable knowledge, commitment and love of the show would be an asset to the management team.
“Steve Welch has been involved with the show for 27 years, going back to when it was held at the Old Showfield, Rodden Road. His first job for the show was car parking and then he moved to the gate committee when the show relocated to the West Woodlands Showground in the early 2000s. This will be Steve’s fifth year as vice chairman.
“Paul Cary was first appointed chairman in 2019 after formerly being head of the fodder and grain section for many years. The Cary family have a long-standing history with the Frome Agricultural and Cheese Show, going as far back to a poster for the 1864 show which shows a Mr Cary as a cheese judge. Edwin Cary was the chairman of the society from 1927-1947, Herbert Charles Cary was chairman from 1958-1977 and Philip Cary from 2001-2006.”
This year’s Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show will be held on Saturday 9th September.
The organisers added, “With already announced acts from Extreme Bike Battle and Gem from CBeebies’ Swashbuckle to the new ‘Little Show Goers Play Zone,’ we are sure there will be something that all the family will enjoy!”
