The floodlights at Frome’s leisure centre have been fixed, allowing residents to safely use the outdoor pitches over the autumn and winter months.
Broken floodlights were among several concerns raised by residents about the facilities at the leisure centre on Princess Anne Road. These have now been repaired, enabling users to continue playing during the darker evenings.
Residents have long complained about the reliability and cleanliness of the facilities at the centre, which is managed by Fusion Leisure. MP Anna Sabine has met with Fusion managers to call for improvements.
Following the repairs, Anna said she was pleased to hear the news. She said, “I had heard from several residents who had concerns over safety in the darker evenings and am very glad that my office has been able to follow up with Fusion on this and they have now fixed this issue.
“However, this is just one of many ongoing problems that the leisure centre has and I am aware that there’s still a lot to be done before it is up to a standard that the residents of Frome are entitled to expect. I and my office will continue to push for improvements across the gym and leisure facilities to make sure that it is a usable, safe and welcoming space for all.”
A Fusion Leisure spokesperson said, “We are very pleased that the floodlights are now working at Frome Leisure Centre, especially as the clocks have gone back, winter is approaching and the evenings are getting darker earlier in the day. It is important to us that residents in our community get maximum enjoyment at all times from visiting our facilities and in the most convenient and safe way.”
