THE Frome Medical Practice has announced that appointments are now available for patients to get their annual flu jabs.
As in previous years, the vaccinations are free to over 65s, women who are pregnant and those with long term illnesses. In addition, main carers of those who are elderly or disabled are also entitled to a free flu vaccine. By having the vaccine, carers will reduce their chances of getting flu. They can then continue to help those they look after.
The practice estimates that there are approximately 8,000 patients in the Frome area who are entitled to a free flu vaccination and they are keen that as many as possible take up the offer.
This year, the flu jab clinics are taking place in a slightly different format which will give patients more choice of appointment dates and times. The clinics will run into the evenings and all treatment will be taking place at the Medical Centre at Enos Way. Booking the appointment is however essential.
The easiest way to book an appointment is to go online at www.fromemedicalpractice.co.uk. Alternatively, appointments can be booked by telephone on 01373 301 301 or by calling in person at the information desk in the Medical Centre.
One of the partners at the Frome Medical Practice is Dr Diane Bungay who said, “In addition to those already entitled to a free jab, this year, for the first time we are also able to offer free flu vaccination to all children who were aged 2 or 3 years on 1st September.
“The vaccine for most children over 2 years old will be given as a spray in each nostril, with no injection required.”
Dr Bungay added, “It is also recommended that patients over 65 receive a free pneumonia vaccine. Most people only need to have this vaccine once in a lifetime and this can be given at the same time as the flu vaccine.”
