Frome Food Assembly is celebrating its third birthday this week on Wednesday 6th December, with a pop up market and party that is open to all.
Local food producers will be sampling their wares, food will be available to buy (and eat) on the night, and there will be local wines (and apple juice!) to drink.
Says host, Pia McGee, “We feel we have a lot to celebrate. We now have over 2,600 members – that represents 23% of Frome households! And in the last few weeks alone, we have been joined by six more producers. Coombe Farm Organic have significantly increased the amount of (local) organic meat we are able to offer with organic chicken, beef, pork, lamb and venison. The range of cuts is simply phenomenal, plus there are bone broths, offal and charcuterie.
“We have also added to our range of fish with ‘Sole of Discretion,’ a community interest company that is owned by the fishers that land to it and which is committed to selling ethically-caught, quality fish.
“Frome-based ‘The Rye Bakery’ has recently joined us, supplying seeded rye, einkorn and buckwheat breads, and ‘Frumpy Frome’ aka Jayne Keitch is a Food Assembly customer turned producer, making homecooked vegan cakes and savoury dishes. ‘Saints Preserve Us’ Sharon Haigh makes jams and chutneys from her own garden produce, whilst ‘Hej Gro,’ a Frome-based family-run business is now supplying us with healthy preserves and foods made from locally foraged plants!
“Last but not least, we have ‘Girls Who Grind Coffee’ an all-female roastery bigging up the ladies in the coffee industry – sourcing all their coffees from female producers and farmers and those who work to support them.”
The pop up market and party will be held at the Steiner School main hall, 5.30-7.30pm. Co-host Lindsay Downes adds, “Everybody is welcome to come and ‘shake the hands that feeds you’ – and see the Food Assembly in action. We always say don’t eat before one of our tasting events and this will be no exception – there will even be birthday cake!”
