AN online fundraising campaign has been launched to raise funds to make improvements at Frome Town Football Club.
The club is trying to raise £5,000 in order to undertake much-needed maintenance work to improve the ground’s facilities. The fundraising campaign was started by Gina Fry who runs a Zumba fitness class at the club.
Club director Gary Collinson said, “We had the new stand built last year which was funded by grants and donations but the money didn’t stretch to cover other work that needs to done. For instance, it’s critical that the access road at the club is repaired as soon as possible. Lots of groups and organisations in the town use the club and it’s dangerous for them to be walking on uneven tarmac, especially the elderly who aren’t very steady on their feet. We already have volunteers who have said they will carry out the work, we just need to buy the materials.”
Funds are low as the football club has been victim to several break-ins in the last two years, which Gary Collinson says has definitely put pressure on the club’s finances.
Gary continued, “It’s very frustrating because the break-ins have probably cost us around £10,000 in the last two years, and that money could have been put to good use.
“It drives me mad because it affects everyone. Frome Town Football Club is more than just the home of Frome Town Football team, it is a much-needed, much-used, community venue.”
