THE former Barclay’s Bank building could become a tattoo studio following the submission of a planning application to Somerset Council by a local business.
The bank, which was based at 18 Stony Street, closed in May last year. Barclay’s say the closure was due to a lack of in-person banking and the increase of internet banking. It is one of a number of banks left empty in the town centre. However, an existing business in the town centre has applied to change the building, that reportedly sits above Frome’s iconic tunnels, into a tattoo studio.
Frome Town Council raised no objection to the application at their planning committee meeting held on Thursday 11th January; Somerset Council will now make a final decision.
