Most people suffer from back pain at some point in their life, yet there is a simple reason for the epidemic of back pain we are noticing today, and it usually has very little to do with the back itself!
“The spine is an integrated unit of vertebrae and joints and has a complex biomechanics,” explains local osteopath Clement Rhein. “However what is most pertinent to back pain is the fact that the nerves from all over the body pour their information through the spine and into the spinal cord in order to relay that information to the brain.
“Consequently, any issues anywhere in the body will be communicated via the nerves and into the spine, causing abnormal changes to the back bones, joints and muscles, predisposing the area to injury, pain and stiffness.
“Once the back biomechanics is disrupted, the scene is set up for injury. It literally just takes one wrong move, picking something up awkwardly, sleeping on a different mattress or doing a bit of gardening can irritate the back tissues such as joints, muscles or discs producing symptoms.
“Sometimes the back pain gets better temporarily until it flares up again, sometimes it does not change much despite conventional treatments, and sometimes it even gets worse from direct treatment. These classic progressions make perfect sense if the cause behind the back pain is not treated correctly.”
Clement will be giving a free presentation about the ‘cause behind back pain’ at the Frome Business Park Osteopathy For All Clinic on Tuesday 26th November.
“The importance of causality within the body will be explored, how to use the nerves to our advantage to diagnose the root cause problem and resolve back pain, rather than only treating symptoms for short term relief,” he added.
This presentation is led by Clement Rhein BSc(Hons) Ost, D.O. PGCertHE, an experienced osteopath particularly focused on the treatment of causes. He has built a wealth of experience in osteopathic health care for over 15 years, working with patients of all ages and disciplines such as babies, children, pregnant women, elderly, athletes and everyone in between.
Clement is a natural teacher able to relay complicated subjects into comprehensive terms, and holds a Master’s level post-graduate certificate of education in higher education. He has been part of the teaching team at the European School of Osteopathy since 2014 and has also run postgraduate courses since 2012 for qualified osteopaths. This presentation is designed to be empowering and informative, with up-to-date evidence-based methods and research.
