VETERAN guitarist Robin Trower will be playing at Frome’s Cheese and Grain next month as part of UK tour to promote his new album ‘Where Are You Going To’.
Robin, whose career has spanned more than four decades, spent the early 60s playing guitar in various London based bands, the most successful being The Paramount who specialised in mostly covers, then later joined Procol Harum and remained a member until 1972.
He then found fame in a solo career, being called a ‘white Hendrix’. His newest album ranges from rock to funky soul with some epic blues grooves. Album opener ‘When Will The Next Blow Fall’ is a rocker inspired by events in Europe and how uncertain people’s futures are.
Robin says, “In terms of influences on this album I felt I was channelling a combination of James Brown and John Lee Hooker on the funky ‘The Fruits of Your Desire’ and ‘Delusion Sweet Delusion’. I’m really looking forward to playing those two live on tour!
“The album features two very emotional tracks ‘We Will Be Together Someday’ and ‘I’m holding on to You’ both dedicated to the memory of my late wife.”
Robin will play the Cheese and Grain on Friday 14th October at 8pm. Tickets cost £24 from www.cheeseandgrain.com or 01363 455420.
