LOCAL charity, Frome Birth Talk, that provides free counselling to new parents, has expanded its eligibility criteria and more people than ever can now access free therapy in Frome.
Due to two new counsellors joining the team, there is also a shorter than average waiting list for parents wishing to get support with their mental health.
Two significant changes have been introduced to the free counselling service. It is now open to all parents regardless of gender, it is also now accepting referrals from people with children up to two-years of age, where previously those with under 1s were seen. It also supports those who have suffered pregnancy loss.
The move comes as a direct response to the needs of the community and the organisation hopes to positively impact the mental health of more families in the area as a result.
“We’re thrilled to be able to open up our scope of work, to support all parents,” said Karen Patrick, Frome Birth Talk’s chair of trustees.
“We also recognise that the mental health struggles that come with parenting can stretch well past the first year of a child’s life, and so we felt increasing our eligibility to two-years was the right thing to do.
“The summer holidays can be an intense time for many families, and we would like to let the community know we are here to support anyone feeling the struggle with very young children, or in pregnancy.”
The waiting list for Frome Birth Talk’s free counselling is currently short. If you would like to speak to someone, please email info@fromebirthtalk.org.uk to be matched with a counsellor.
