The launch of The Friends of Frome Children’s Festival was held on Thursday 4th June.
Volunteers and supporters, including the Mayor and Selwood Head Jean Hopegood, came together at the Round Tower in Frome to launch the group, aimed to support the Frome Children’s Festival.
The Children’s Festival Projects offer low cost or free, quality activities to all young people of Frome throughout the year, including the Frome Children’s Festival itself, Frome Active Sports Fest, a Christmas Party and a series of workshops and activities throughout the summer.
Next month on Sunday 12th July, Frome Children’s Festival takes to Victoria Park for a day of active and creative activities, including dance and music workshops, forest school, ramp action, circus skills, story workshops, archery, football skills, bike ability, remote control cars, graffiti and street art, teen chill out, performances and lots of things to make and do at the Frome Children’s Festival.
Azeema Cafoor is from Young People Frome. She said, “Finding funding is always an issue. This year the festival has been lucky enough to be funded by Awards for All lottery funding. The housing associations, Knightstone and Aster have funded the summer activities which will take us up to the end of August but obviously we would like to have a more stable financial footing to enable us to better plan for good solid provision throughout the year. Asking for sponsorship from local businesses and asking people to donate a small amount a month is a good way for people in the town to support us.
“Funding by lottery fund this year has meant that we have been able to make the Children’s Festival this year free. This will truly make the day accessible to all. Launching our friends group means that we will be able to continue to put together good quality free or low cost provision throughout the year to allow all children to access good quality experiences.”
