INSPIRED by Frome Medical Practice’s ‘Couch to 5k’ course, local woman, Jac Wilkins, recently completed a fun run, raising over £400 for charity.
Jac first joined the medical practice’s course – which supports participants to start or get back into running – two years ago. After developing a love for the sport, Jac took part in Dorothy House Hospice Care’s first Big Breakfast 5km fun run at Odd Down Sports Ground in Bath on Sunday 13th October.
Jac told Frome Times, “Since starting ‘Couch to 5K’ with the Frome GPs two years ago, I’ve developed a real love of running. Having run a few parkruns, I decided to try the Bath Breakfast 5k Run in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care, but this time I wanted to raise some sponsorship – something I’ve never been bold enough to do in my life.
“So I ran dressed as a dalmatian dog, and I’d like to say a huge thank you to friends, neighbours and family for their generous support which enabled me to raise over £450 – enough to pay for at least 14 hours of nurse specialist time, delivering care to patients in our community.
“I’m not super-fit and I’m no spring chicken so whatever your age, shape, size, ability and mind-set you could try ‘Couch to 5k’ – you might just love it, and improve your wellbeing too.”
