Final preparations are being made to the Frome Amateur Operatic Society’s spring production, the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, ‘The Sound of Music’, being performed at the Memorial Theatre from Tuesday 14th to Saturday 18th May.
It’s only the second time in the society’s 107 year history that it has performed this musical, the last time being in 1981.
The cast, led by Tabitha Cox as Maria (who scored such a hit last spring as Belle in ‘Beauty and the Beast’) and Nevil Poole as Captain von Trapp, (who wowed audiences with his portrayal of Jesus in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ in 2011) have been rehearsing since January, and along with the rest of the cast are putting the final touches to their performances, under the watchful eye of director Phil Courage, along with choreographer Amy Morgan-Bell and Musical director Kerry Bishop.
With the set now in place, and the moves all finalised, the cast just await what is sure to be sell-out audiences next week. So come along and enjoy such numbers as ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘The Lonely Goatherd’, ‘Edelweiss’ and ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’. With such wonderful melodic music, children and nuns, what more could you ask for in a musical!
