FROME band, The Mighty Rooster, has just enjoyed a return to the UK festival scene, appearing at the Cambridge Rock Festival.
The Mighty Rooster was pleased to appear alongside rock legends including Atomic Rooster and Focus.
Despite the heavy rain whilst performing at the Cambridge Rock Festival, the band attracted and held a substantial crowd of seasoned festival goers, who were seeing them perform for the first time. Their set list comprised self-penned numbers from the last 25 years alongside folk tunes.
Speaking on behalf of the band, Steve Heath (guitar and vocals), said, “It’s great to be back playing as a band again and more gigs are planned for this year and into 2023.”
Formed in the late 1990s, three Frome musicians Steve, Peter Baker (guitar) and Simon Clarke (bass guitar) were joined by Dean Creighton (drums) and Mike Varty (keyboards and violin) and played together until 2010.
During this time they became recognised for playing their own brand of folk rock at local pubs and festivals whilst also taking on support slots at The Cheese and Grain.
In 2019 they re-formed to play at the annual Box Rocks and Frome’s Cornerhouse, followed by a live recording at Visual Arts Radio in preparation for gigs at the Cheese and Grain and the Cambridge Festival.
In common with many other musical acts, however, their plans were disrupted by the advent of Covid. This was remedied in 2022.
