A NEW set of gates, the latest work by a Frome blacksmith, have appeared on Palmer Street leading into the high pavement’s outdoor seating area.
Jez, who has lived and worked as a blacksmith in Frome for 25 years, has designed several pieces of work in the town, from the iconic Catherine Street sign at the bottom of Stoney Street, to the handles on the Cheese & Grain and St John’s Church. Sharing details of the brief he was given to create the gates Jez said, “I was given a brief to make the gates inspired out of the plants and reeds you would find around a pond. The previous gates were not very pretty, they were wooden gates used as a side entrance. The restaurant has a pond in the courtyard and this was the inspiration.”
With several pieces of his work already around the town, Jez said, “Whenever I have visitors, we often go on walks and I can point out what I have made.”
