FROME’S Carnival Queen for 2016, Aleesha White, has been crowned following the selection competition which took place earlier this month.
Aleesha will be joined in her duties by her two attendants Shannon Ayres and Sam Glover. She takes over the role from last year’s carnival queen Vicky Hart.
Aleesha said, “This was my first time entering for Frome’s Carnival Queen but I was Miss Teenager in 2011. I loved all the events that the hard-working committee put on for us then, so as soon as I was old enough, I just had to enter in the Queen category.
“I was shocked to find out I had won as it was the first time I had entered and it has been some time since I was last up on the stage. I’m looking forward to taking part in all the events and making Frome and my family proud.”
This year’s Miss Teenager was won by Melissa Cook, who will be attended by Louisa Martin and Mia White.
Carnival chair June Barnes said, “The competitions went very well and we had a lot of successful entries. The quality of entries was high and there were some lovely people taking part.
“Now it’s time to really get into fundraising for the carnival, that’s what this is all for. The day costs a lot of money to put on and the royalty will have to work hard to make sure it goes well.”
On Saturday 18th June, at Frome Community College from 1.15pm onwards, the Children’s Carnival Queen and Carnival Granny will be crowned. Applications have now closed; however entries will be accepted on the day. The Children’s Carnival Queen and Carnival Granny will be chosen by BBC Points West news presenter, Sarah-Jane Bungay.
