The children of Frome are set to have their voices heard around the world with the release of the new Rocktopus song ‘Change Today (The Voice of The Children)’.
The song, which is now available on Spotify, Apple Music and all online platforms, is a powerful message from the younger generation about the environmental crisis that we all face.
Tom Veck of Rocktopus said, “The end result is a really powerful song which should speak to the hearts and minds of adults and children all across the world. The message is clear – we need change, and we need it now!’ Change Today (The Voice of The Children) was written in May at a songwriting event organised by Rocktopus, in association with Frome Town Council.”
At the event, Frome children and families gathered together with representatives from Greenpeace, Somerset Wildlife, Extinction Rebellion and Frome Town Council to discuss the highly-emotive subject of climate change before Rocktopus used their songwriting expertise to weave the children’s expressions, thoughts and feelings into an original song.
Rupert Kaye, headteacher of Christ Church First School, Frome said, “The climate justice songwriting session in Frome Town Hall was really moving and it’s amazing how such a powerful song was created, that really captures how children are feeling about the current ecological crisis.”
To spread the message in Change Today (The Voice of The Children) as far as possible, Rocktopus gathered their local fans together after their hugely successful ‘Rock the Park’ event in July, and set about shooting the music video which will be released on Youtube this week, on Tuesday 10th December.
Andy Hawkings of Rocktopus said, “The time has finally come to share this song with the world and we want to share it as far and wide as possible. When you see it online, you can help get the message out there by sharing it with your friends. Don’t forget to go to Spotify and have a listen too – it’s a great tune!”
“The whole project was a fantastic opportunity for local people to unite for a good cause, with many different members of the community coming together; Frome Town Council who helped organise all the events, Frome Children’s Festival team who helped the children make banners for the video shoot, the charity personnel who shared their knowledge during the songwriting session, St John’s First School Choir who added their voices to the recording, Adrian Jean who helped with the filming, and, of course, the children and their families who helped write the song and starred in the video. It goes to show that important topics like this, which affect everyone, can unite all areas of the community.”
