AFTER months of nervous waiting, pupils at Frome College collected their A-level and GCSE results earlier this month and it’s been another great year for the college.
Staff at the college say they are delighted with the results and have praised the students for all their hard work, especially GCSE students who this year received their results with the new grading system which now follows a 9 to 1 number format, as opposed to A to E letters.
An impressive set of A-level results saw three students having been successful in their applications to Oxford University, which is currently ranked the second best university in the world. Ben Davies (A*A*A* in maths, further maths and physics) will be going to study mathematics; Bertie Harrison-Broninski (AAA in English literature, music and history) will be studying English language and literature while Ailsa Williams (A*A*A* in maths, biology and chemistry) will be studying biomedical sciences.
Nationally only one in five applications to Oxford and Cambridge are successful. In the last two years, Frome College has sent seven students off to either Cambridge or Oxford.
Another student, Blythe Plenderleith has not only achieved an impressive A*A*A* in graphics, drama and art, but has also gained entry to Glasgow School of Art where she will study fine art – environmental art/sculpture. Her course is highly competitive with under 12% of applicants gaining a place.
Speaking about the GCSE results, principal Gavin Ball said, “We are very proud of all of our students and their achievements, but it would be amiss not to celebrate the following outstanding achievements: 5 A*/As: Holly Davis, Rosie Le Lohe Attwell, Sophie Smith, Anna Snelgrove, Cordelia Tarbrooke, Masie Cloke, Kai Hayes Stone, Harry Hight, Chloe Hughes, Jordan McMahon, James Porter, Sophie Smith; 6 A*/As: Chloe Tanner, Grace Beaven, Evie Burnett, Connor Cairns, Finlay Collinson, Joseph Dobson, Jade Eastwood, Louis Price-Peachey; 7 A*/As: Matilda Lunt, Tia Ryder, Ben Green, Joe Malley, Lauren Mead, Emily Oakley, Stella Oldham; 8 A*/As: Lily Breese, Thomas Haines, Tilly Le Lohe Attwell, Dylan Oliver, Lottie Plunkett-Jones; 9 A*/As: Abbie Brooks, Morgan Curle, Oshi Francomb, Daisy Harrison-Broninski, Natalie Howell, Amy Nicholls, Pippa Turner; 10A*/As: Isabelle Book, Mathew Haines, Rhiannon James, Emma Marshall, Avalon Ross, May Schymczyk, Flora Williams.”

“Frome College is about having a belief system, a culture that shows that it is good to be successful, that it is good to take a pride in yourself and in your school. With hard work and focus, all students can unlock their dreams. These results are the culmination of a great year at Frome College.”
