THIS year’s Frome Carnival kicked off with entertainment for the whole family in the town centre.
The streets came alive with circus performers, music, street theatre, graffiti art, workshops and a pirate mob searching for lost treasure.
The Frome Carnival committee have been working hard to develop their activities to involve more people in the town, and this has been made possible by a grant from Frome Development CIC and Frome Town Council who are now working in partnership with the carnival.
As well as street entertainment, workshops with Frome College have provided the opportunity for students to get involved for the first time. Artist Mel Day worked alongside college staff in the art department to help the students design and make a beautiful flock of birds from willow and tissue paper.
Speaking about the project, Lisa Millard of Frome College said, “At Frome College we feel it is important for our students to be active members of the community. Many of our students will live and work in Frome after they finish their education; getting students involved in community events is a great way to promote community cohesion, develop skills and be involved.”
The carnival hopes to continue to develop its activities in the coming years and to encourage more local groups to get involved in making entries for the children’s carnival and evening procession to make the carnival an even bigger celebration for the people of Frome.
