DESPITE the challenges 2021 has presented, a lot has been achieved at Frome College!
“We have done well in competitions,” reports the college. “Our CyberCenturion teams ranked highly in the National Cyber Security Competition, while our Science students gained several medals in Biology and Chemistry Olympiads.
“Art proved to be an incredibly enriching outlet throughout lockdown and beyond, giving students a break from screen-based learning. Their highly creative artwork has been displayed in Frome Medical Practice, Stourhead, the windows of Rogers & Co estate agents, and even their own homes during the Great Big Art Exhibition. We also held outstanding art exhibitions on site throughout the year.
“There has been a big focus on ways we can collectively be more eco-friendly, and enhance our beautiful site with natural materials. Well done to our Eco Club who have helped us gain the internationally recognised Bronze Eco Schools Award!
“Thank you to Wainwright & Co for their generous donation of £5,000, so students could build an electricity-powered Greenpower racing car. Additionally, The Great Big Green Week introduced students to various activities and insights about sustainability.
“Over the summer we held our annual music concert virtually, celebrated the successes of Year 11 and 13 on their results days, and ran a summer school for the new Year 9s.
“In September we celebrated Frome College’s 100 year anniversary! To mark the occasion, staff, students and governors (old and new) gathered at St John’s Church to reminisce about our history. To tie in with the anniversary, Frome Museum exhibited fascinating memorabilia about our school.
“In keeping with viral trends, our talented musicians produced a rendition of the Wellerman sea shanty, amassing over 40,000 views on YouTube, while the baked bean challenge our Food students participated in reached national media coverage!
“We look forward to seeing what 2022 brings!”
