Frome College send a gift to community rocked by shooting

Following the success of this year’s art exhibition at Frome College, two talented students have offered a unique gift to the people of Charleston, South Carolina, as a symbol of rebuilding and support following a shooting at a Charleston church in May this year which resulted in the loss of nine members of a bible study group.

The gift was organised by teacher Christopher Curtis who has contacts in Charleston and wanted to make a symbolic and positive contribution to the rebuilding of the local community and to recognise that goodwill always win through in the end.

Two students, Rebecca Evans and Jamie Buckland, offered their stunning artwork as a permanent gift to adorn the walls at the church. Rosetta Singleton, from Mother Emanuel African Episcopal Church in Calhoun Church said, “The community is delighted with their gift from England to the United States of America.”

Organisers  explained, “Rebecca produced a fantastic three-dimensional view of a country scene at Trowbridge Park and Jamie produced a stunning series of images featuring sunsets and shooting stars. Both students have included personal messages to the church community in Charleston.

“The special gift was carefully shipped to Charleston this week in protective packaging provided by The Consortium, from Trowbridge. Friends in Charleston will personally deliver the gifts on the final part of the journey to Kalhoun Street.”

John Richards, area field sales manager at the Consortium said, “The Consortium thought it was so important to help Frome College send this symbol of support to the people of Charleston; to show that people across the world stand with them as they rebuild their community and we are proud to be associated with this offering.”
