Frome College say that “now is an exciting time to be joining our thriving sixth form as we look to build upon results which have strengthened year on year.”
The school is holding a Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 29th November where you can visit and see what the school has to offer for post-16 education. Talks on subjects available will be held in the Merlin Theatre at 5.30pm and 6.15pm.
Dr J Sadowski, head of sixth form says, “We have a proven track record of success that continues to improve; one of the broadest curriculum offers in the area; and a total commitment to student-focused support and challenges.
“Many of our students progress to university and we have an excellent success rate in ensuring students achieve their first choice for higher education, including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. Equally, large numbers of students are successful in securing highly competitive apprenticeships.
“Our student body is extremely diverse, with students able to pursue a curriculum that is tailored to meet their needs. Those with top GCSE grades are encouraged to pursue up to four A-levels, including the most rigorous academic subjects such as further maths, English literature, the humanities and sciences. For those with high ambitions but lower GCSE grades, our suite of vocational courses such as health and social care, childcare and sport provide students with desirable, workplace-ready skills. We are particularly proud of our reputation as a centre of excellence for the visual and expressive arts and are looking to add Fashion A-level to the wide range of creative courses we offer from 2019.
“The demands of the new linear A-levels and reformed BTECs are substantial. To succeed, students need a combination of high quality teaching and a dedicated approach to independent study. We can guarantee the former, and our pastoral programme is specifically designed to help students develop the latter, boosting their independent learning skills and resilience.
“Above all, we seek to help our sixth formers develop into well-rounded and responsible young adults. To help prepare students for life in the wider world we offer a bespoke programme of personal, social, heath and economic education. Students are also supported in seeking career-specific work experience and volunteering opportunities throughout the year. Finally, our thriving student union offers a myriad of opportunities for aspiring leaders and gives students a real say in their sixth form experience.”
