Frome College student’s winning poster

LOOK out for the dramatic posters by Frome Community College student Bridie Fry, advertising a forthcoming performance of ‘The Armed Man: a Mass for Peace’. 

Bridie is studying graphics at A level at Frome Community College and her design was chosen by Frome Voices to publicise the event.

Olivia Date of Frome Voices said, “There were some very interesting and professional poster designs produced by the college students, and we enjoyed visiting the college and looking at some wonderful portfolios of work.  When it came to choosing a winning poster design, Bridie’s stood out because as well as depicting the gravity of war, it also showed the possibility of peace, something that is central to this acclaimed work by Karl Jenkins.”

As part of Frome Voices’ aim to involve as much of the community as possible in their production of ‘The Armed Man’, the students were given a brief to design three components for the performance: a poster, a slide and some images to reflect the music’s themes of war and peace.

Tamsin Thomas, art teacher at the college said, “As well as forming 50% of the students’ AS level grade, the project provided the students with some real experience of working with a client – it’s been a great project.”

‘The Armed Man’ is being performed at the Cheese and Grain on Saturday 29th March at 7.30pm, where you will be able to see the slides and images the students produced.
