Frome Collegians FC held their annual presentation evening at Frome Town Football Club on Friday 8th June.
Chairman Mike Buckley welcomed everyone to the evening announcing this was to be his last as chairman after 13 years, and culminating in this season being one of the most successful for many years.
He thanked all managers/ coaches and committee members for all their hard work and support this season and throughout his tenure as club chairman.
Graham Clarke, president of Frome Collegians is also the manager of the Somerset County Schools and the Somerset County Fa Under 18 representative teams. He welcomed two of his former county players, Jordan Storey and Felix Squire.
Jordan Storey was selected for England schools’ national side three years ago and who progressed to the Exeter City First Team after leaving college. He played at Wembley two weeks ago in the Division Two playoff final and after the presentation, signed for Preston North End.
Felix Squire, on Graham’s recommendation, was awarded a full soccer scholarship at university in the USA. He has recently returned to this country after obtaining an honours degree. A talented midfielder, he intends to sign for Frome Collegians next season.
Graham said that he was proud of their progress and said how important it was to play for the Somerset county teams to progress in education or professional football.
Official guests for the evening were introduced; cllr Richard Acroyd, Mayor of Frome (who presented the main club awards), and Jean Hopegood, Selwood Academy headteacher.
During the awards, several achievements were announced including the adult 1st team achieving the treble – Mid-Somerset League Premier Division league champions, and two cup final victories; the under 9s winning a cup competition, the under 11s winning their cup competition, the under 12s winning their league and the under 16s youth team being league runners-up.
The club would also like to thank Gary Collinson of Frome Town Football Club who continues to support all youth teams in Frome, Adrian Ford (photographer), Paul Carver (PA system and disco), Marcia Hutton who prepared and decorated the tables in club colours for the evening and Karen Miller who sold raffle tickets on the night.
