FROME has topped an online poll to find the best place to live in Somerset.
Hosted by lifestyle website Muddy Stilettos, Frome came first ahead of seven other Somerset towns and villages including Bruton, Wells and Somerton.
“The community-minded town’s packed with artisan, indy businesses, restaurants and cafes, a bunch of gorgeous buildings and houses (over 400 listed properties, apparently) and good schools,” said a spokesperson for Muddy Stilettos.
“This is a super arty place with galleries galore, a thriving music venue (where The Foo Fighters have been known to just rock up) and the maker-designer-foodie Frome Independent, the best street market in the West. Average house price over the past year is £320,201, with lots of period and contemporary properties to be found.”
The Top 8 most popular towns and villages in Somerset were: 1. Frome; 2. Wells; 3. Bear Flat, Bath; 4. Somerton; 5. Clevedon; 6. Bruton; 7. Dulverton; 8. Wedmore .
The Somerset poll was part of Muddy Stilettos’ ‘Top 200 Best Places to Live guide’.
“From market towns to villages, hamlets to commuter favourites, each of the 200 locations were independently picked by the highly trusted editorial team and then over 21,000 readers went on to vote,” said the Muddy Stilettos spokesperson.
“Both national and county results reveal some surprising facts. Not driven just by size of population, the vote revealed the strength of passion for each town or village’s sense of community, quality of local facilities, and immediate surroundings.”
