IRAQ war veteran Robert Lye from Frome has completed a 156-mile race in what is considered the toughest foot race on earth.
The former Royal Marine ran the gruelling race which is equivalent of six marathons, in memory of his friend James Eyers who was killed in a traffic accident on his way home from work in 2007.
Robert finished 636th out of 1,000 runners in the Marathon Des Sables, an annual multi-day race that takes place in Southern Morocco.
The race that first started in 1986, is ran in stages with its longest stage being 55 miles long.
Robert has previously ran in the London Marathon, the Rome Marathon and the Ironman Race.
James’ family and friends set up the James Eyers Memorial Fund in his honour. To find out more information or to donate visit www.james eyersmemorialfund.co.uk
The memorial fund will also be holding a quiz night at Frome Rugby Club Saturday 26th April.
Tables of four are £12 and can be booked by calling Sue Edwards on 07891 960916.
