Tuesday 4th February – Frome Hearts 11, Holt Gems 27
Frome’s netball team, the Hearts, played a strong game against Holt Gems on Tuesday 4th February.
Despite being low on centre-court players, the team kept their heads up and showed great movement down the court. The first quarter was a close contest, with both teams playing well. Hearts applied defensive pressure on Holt, knowing they had strong attackers.
Lydia (Goal Defence) and Jen (Goal Keeper) made several interceptions when the ball was thrown into the D, while Maya and Breeanna positioned themselves well on the edge, ready to receive the ball.
The quarter finished 5–2, with Holt in the lead. In the second quarter, Holt pulled ahead, but this didn’t stop Hearts from making strong, direct passes down the court to give Hannah and Ginny as many shooting opportunities as possible. Unfortunately, Gems secured most of the rebounds, and the quarter ended 15–3. After a break, the decision to move Lucy into centre gave Hearts a boost.
They managed to slow Holt’s momentum, with Lydia and Jen continuing to put pressure on their attackers. Despite their efforts, Holt maintained their lead, finishing the third quarter 21–7.
Heading into the final quarter, Lucy came off, and Breeanna returned as centre.
Hearts set themselves the goal of reaching 10 points while holding back Holt’s lead as much as possible. With a final push, they stayed determined, making every effort to get the ball to their attackers. Their goal was met, and the match ended with Hearts feeling proud of their performance despite the loss.
Well done to Maisie, who was named Player of the Match, and to both Jen and Lydia, who were voted Players’ Players – all very well deserved!
