A Frome charity shop is helping to promote a national ‘toy exchange’ to raise money for vulnerable children.
The Barnardo’s team in Kingsway Precinct are inviting residents to clear their cupboards of pre-loved cuddly characters, action figures and games.
Supporters can take donations to their local Barnardo’s or Argos stores until Tuesday 25th November in return for a £5 voucher towards the cost of new toys (minimum spend £35) to be redeemed at Argos by 24th December.
This is the third year of the Argos Toy Exchange, which last year raised almost £83,000 for the children’s charity across the South West.
The first two years of the scheme saw 540 bags of donations received by the Frome shop alone.
Barnardo’s manager Judith Loughlin said, “The Argos Toy Exchange is an invaluable opportunity to remind people of how their donations can make a big difference to the lives of vulnerable children.
“Our charity helps some of the most disadvantaged youngsters in the UK, such as those growing up in poverty, those trying to escape abuse and those living in care.
“Profits from the toys, when sold, will fund this work – every single toy will count.”
Amy Whidburn, Argos head of corporate responsibility said, “Each year our toy exchange raises hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of toy donations.
“Over the last two years we have generated around £1.25million worth of toys and this year we want to add to this to hit £2million over three years.
“With the money raised going to help support some of Barnardo’s vital causes such as early years development or vocational skills training, we’re committed to making this the most successful year yet.”
