The Reverend Colin Alsbury Vicar of St John the Baptist Church in Frome was the guest speaker at the June meeting of the Frome Family History Group.
Chris Featherstone from the Frome Family History Group said, “Colin entertained us with interesting and often amusing stories from his own forty year research into his family history.
“His interest was sparked when as a sixteen year old boy, he asked great aunt questions about his family and was surprised by her reaction which of course made him want to find out more and what it was that she didn’t want him to know!
“The Reverend Colin found that among the pillars of society and worthy folk there were a smattering of illegitimate children, inebriated gentlemen and interesting relationships just as there are in most of our families.
“Colin suggested several sources of information that may not have occurred to most of us and he was thanked for a very enjoyable and informative evening.
“Our next talk is on Tuesday 26th July where Barbara Elsmore will talk to us about writing our family history as a story. Saturday morning advice sessions continue at the library but please book a place with the library staff. Members and non-members are welcome to our talks and to the Saturday advice sessions.”
