Dore & Rees, run with care and attention by Mark Rees for 37 years, has been bought by a passionate fan. Lee Young, a familiar face on the BBC Antiques Roadshow, will be taking the helm of the family firm which is heading for a bright future with a new generation of energy and ideas.
Lee has been a longstanding fan of the Frome saleroom. He first visited in 2012, falling in love with the magic of its premises and its charmed position in the local community.
Somerset based Lee has had a prestigious career over thirty years working for international and national auctioneers including Sotheby’s, Phillips, Freeman’s of Philadelphia, Lyon & Turnbull and most recently, Duke’s of Dorchester where he was Managing Director.
Lee and Mark have lived locally to one another for many years, with a great respect for each other’s experience and achievements. Mark will continue to be an ambassador for Dore & Rees and to welcome longstanding clients and friends to the saleroom.
The Dore & Rees team, Guy Tayler and Sam Craig, are looking forward to new opportunities for the business, such as opening up the auctions to online bidding and growth in the specialist sales.
Also joining the team is Lynn Strover, formerly of Christie’s, KPMG Singapore and Duke’s, who brings an experience of the auction and business world with a focus on client experience.
Together with Lee’s deep knowledge of furniture, works of art, design and Asian art, the team are well placed to help collectors, connoisseurs and shoppers alike. They are welcoming entries for upcoming auctions in May, June and beyond.
The auction industry is thriving, with renewed focus on our homes and interiors in the recent months of lockdowns driving much of the interest in interiors.
Additionally, buying second hand over ‘new’ is a big tick for sustainable shopping and the new Dore & Rees will continue to be a place to find gems to brighten up your home, add to your collection and get design inspiration.
Lee Young comments, “Dore & Rees’ gothic Victorian saleroom has a real magic and is such a cherished part of the community we will preserve, whilst creating new reasons for people to pay a visit through an expanded sale programme, opening our doors to a wider audience.”
