The Cheese & Grain Farmers’ Market, which has taken place on the second Saturday of the month for the last 15 years, has been awarded a Gold Award in the Taste of the West retail awards.
Tracey Rawlins, marketing manager at the Cheese & Grain said, “This is a huge achievement taking into consideration that over 300 venues in the South West were being judged!”
“The Frome Farmers’ Market has always been one of the largest in the area with a capacity for up to 36 farmers and food producers, all competing to sell the best in meats, cheeses, fresh produce and even freshly caught Dorset shellfish ….the majority of whom are also multi-award winning, and like nothing more than sharing their passion for their produce.
“This Saturday’s market on 11th October sees the market grow again, so we can include ‘Dusty Ape ‘a new local coffee roaster and Little Jack Horner whose gourmet sausage rolls are produced in Mells using locally reared meat.
“Future plans include regularly meeting the farmers for question and answer events, utilizing the newly created rooms upstairs in the Cheese & Grain, and to further strengthen understanding of local food production. Also cooking demonstrations, using what’s in season to develop confidence in the kitchen, for example creating soups and stews from scratch!
“The large solar-powered indoor venue with welcoming café ensures that the market remains warm and dry all year round.
“In addition to the monthly Saturday market we also hold an additional pre-Christmas Farmers’ Market and this year will take place on Tuesday 23rd December from 5.00pm-7.30pm.
