Cooper Hall gave a bright start to January with two heart-warming, Scottish inspired fundraisers on 6th and 7th to support Frome Festival.
Organisers say, “Each year, our town’s largest cultural event relies heavily on the support of volunteers, sponsorship and donations from the community to deliver an extensive range of events to the town.
“With that in mind, professional performer and Festival patron, Morag McLaren, decided to “Take the High Road” and present her one-woman show to raise much-needed funds for the coffers. As a result, Cooper Hall were able to donate a handsome total of £2,198.”
Morag McLaren said, “We were overwhelmed by the quick uptake we had on this show. Thankfully my accompanist, Nathan Martin, was available to join me for a second showing on the Sunday afternoon, which also sold out. It means we’ve been able to donate double what we expected to the festival, and had double the fun.
“A huge thank you to Martin Dimery for supporting in every way possible, on and off stage, and to talented young singer, Astrid Bishop, for kicking off on Saturday night with a beautifully presented set of songs. These shows have been a great start to 2018 at Cooper Hall.”
Festival director, Martin Dimery, also offered a few words now the numbers are in, saying, “Our huge thanks go to Morag McLaren for hosting and performing these sell-out concerts. Audiences clearly loved the show and it helps us in securing the long-term future of the Frome Festival, which will take place this year between the 6th and 15th of July.”
Cooper Hall is based in the grounds of Selwood Manor, Frome, and regularly hosts fundraisers for both Frome Festival and Dorothy House Hospice. The next major fundraiser is with Cara Dillon on Sunday 11th March who recorded the piano and vocals for her new album, Wanderer, in the hall.
