FROME Fire Cadets will travel to Austria this September to compete in the 21st International Youth Firefighters competition 2017 after they successfully raised £6,000.
The cadets qualified to take part in the International Young Firefighters competition in Villach, Austria in July this year, but to be able to attend, the 10 cadets needed to raise £6,000 to cover the cost of their trip.
They launched a campaign to raise the funds via Crowdfund Frome and on 15th May reached their target.
Frome Town Council provided £3,000 of funding as part of their strategy to support not-for-profit organisations whose project will benefit the people of Frome.
Kinderhotels Europe who run the hotel Melcher in Villach, donated £1,400 after seeing the campaign online.
Frome fire cadets are the first non-metropolitan fire service to qualify for the British team, but in order to attend the ten cadets needed to raise £6,000 to cover the costs of their trip.
The competition will be fierce, with 500 cadets and 60 teams from 30 different countries taking part. But they will have the honour of representing their country, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, as well as Somerset and Frome.
The event will offer the cadets a fantastic opportunity to fully test their technical skills and sporting abilities by taking part in a whole range of challenges and competitions, all conducted in a spirit of competitive friendship.
