Every fortnight, Frome Times puts the spotlight on Frome’s radio station, Frome FM.
Based in the Town Hall on Christchurch Street, Frome, it has two studios for local people to share their information, concerns and ideas with the diverse communities in and around the town. Here, the volunteer staff also run courses for people to learn how to record radio programmes – and then put them on the air.
There’s a whole range of subjects and musical genres represented on the 24/7 programme service.
The radio station reports, “This week, we feature the monthly On-Air Book Group show. The On-Air Book Group is like any other book group except it’s on the radio. The show goes out every fourth Friday afternoon at 2pm.
“The next programme is on Friday March 1st and will focus on graphic novels. Presenters Karen Stewart, Helen Ottaway and James Ellis will discuss Raymond Briggs’ When the Wind Blows, Bryan Talbot’s Alice in Sunderland, Nick Drnaso’s Sabrina and The Watchmen by Alan Moore. This month’s guest is local graphic artist and animator David Daniels.
“David has designed and directed award-winning TV commercials for the likes of Honda and Nike and created visual content for live performances by Led Zeppelin, Roger Waters and Bryan Adams. He is a member of Black Swan Arts’ artists programming group.
“The books for each On-Air Book Group show are advertised during the previous weeks on the book group’s page on Frome FM’s website – http://frome.fm/programmes /talk/on-air-book-group. Listeners are welcome to join the conversation by sending their thoughts and comments to books@frome.fm or by posting on the Frome FM On Air Book Group Facebook page.
“If you have an idea for a show, would like to become a member of Frome FM’s programme team, would like to volunteer to help others make programmes at the station, we are waiting to hear from you!”
