Groups and charities in Frome have been awarded over £20,000 in grant funding by Frome Town Council to help them continue in their work of supporting local residents.
At a meeting of the grants committee last month, the town council awarded funding to applicants for grants of up to £3,000.
The Good Heart, Frome’s centre of kindness, was awarded the most grant funding, receiving £2,935 to support the development of a Frome Grief Network.
Several other organisations were awarded £2,500 each. These included The Pod Charity, which supports young people and adults with additional needs, their carers and their families, to go towards Pod Plus Development.
Domestic abuse charity, Voices, was awarded funding for Frome Support and the Vallis First School Association for a community room.
Mind Your Music a mental wellbeing organisation, was awarded £2,000 for its One Love Project.
Local cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY) was also given this amount to increase its school-based counselling sessions for Frome children and young people.
Family charity Purple Elephant, which runs the annual Frome Children’s Festival as well as other support for children and families, was awarded £2,000 for a new volunteer coordinator and Frome Field 2 Fork was also awarded this sum to fund an educational wellbeing programme summer season and Frome Pumpkin Day event.
Triumph Over Phobia was awarded £1,500 for a Frome self-help service and Frome Area Community Land Trust (FACLT) was awarded £1,000 to help fund core administrative services.
Wise Children, a theatre company based at the Lucky Chance along Portway, was also awarded £1,000 for the Wise Children’s free ticket scheme.
Organisations awarded £500 included Make the Sunshine CIC, to help fund Frome’s theatre playground and Back to Nature CIC, for women’s wellbeing sessions.
Two organisations that had applied for £2,000 were not awarded funding by the town council in this round of applications. These were: Neighbourhood Toolbox CIC for its community design surgeries and Friends of Berkley School for The School of Imagination.
