WITH the Frome Half Marathon only a couple of weeks away, organisers of the 10k and 5k races still need more people to don a fluorescent jacket and help keep the runners safe on Sunday 17th July.
“Could you give up a couple of hours on the day to help more than 800 runners raise money for charities? If so, please email marshalls@fromehalfmarathon.co.uk,” said Dave Perrett.
“Even if you’ve never done anything like this before, you can still help out, as you’ll be fully briefed and supported in the role. Plus of course, there’s the free tea and cake for all marshals; not to mention the warm feeling you’ll get from knowing that you’ve helped the runners raise so much money for good causes.
“Meanwhile, preparations for the race are progressing nicely, as the big day draws ever nearer. Residents and visitors to Frome are asked to keep a look out for road closures in the area. The yellow route closure signs are now up on lampposts along the route around the town and out through Nunney and Whatley, and these signs detail which roads will be closed and when. Most roads are only closed for an hour or two, but please do check these signs if you think you will be affected, as you will not be able to use these roads during the time shown on the signs. You can also get a full lowdown on the road closures – which roads are shut and when – at www.fromehalfmarathon.co.uk/road-closure. If you think you may be affected on the day, please do take note of the closures to avoid any issues, or if you know anyone along the route who may be affected – particularly vulnerable people – please do spread the word to let them know.
“Away from the race logistics, more runners are out pounding the streets of Frome, with many taking part in their first ever running event – and it’s still not too late to enter at www.fromehalfmarathon.co.uk. Individual runners are raising money for their chosen charities, while the event itself raises money for Frome Activities and Sports Trust (FAST), a new initiative that aims to provide a community resource for any activity or sports group in the town; plus other local charities.”
