Frome 2 Mendip 2
On a wet and horrid Saturday morning Frome took to the pitch to play a friendly against local rivals Mendip. Although going out to win the focus for the Frome team was to grab an opportunity within a competitive environment to develop their young players and push the barriers.
Risky from the start Frome embraced this and although Mendip opened the score line first, Izzy O’Brien – the youngest player on the pitch – showed that age was no substitute for determination and after a frenzy in the Mendip D she ensured the score line was levelled.
Mendip, the mature side, managed to score just before half time and Frome went in for a team talk one goal behind.
Well motivated and ready to go again, Frome played a more determined second half and dominated the Mendip D. After a couple of short corners. Taylor-Wolff found a loose ball in front of the keeper and reversed hit it cleanly into the gaol to draw the score line level.
There was action both ends of the pitch but relentless defending from Gardener, Daniels, Hamlin and Nielson ensured any pressure from Mendip was prevented from developing and turned into counter attacks through Harvey, Webley and Pasco who continuously fed the ball forward to Piper and O’Brien to create chances for Frome to go ahead. But the score line remained at 2-2 by the final whistle.
