A new series of evening craft workshops launches in Frome this spring, lead by some of the local area’s best craftspeople.
The team behind The Frome Independent have selected a group of expert designers, makers, and Frome’s best craftspeople to lead a series of one-off short courses for people to try their hand at a new skill.
The sessions, called “Night School”, launch on Thursday 9th March with screen printing led by Anna Brindle from Lost Shapes. Other sessions offer the chance to try whittling, food preservation, blacksmithing, bookbinding, linocut printing and much more over the course of 2017. Night School is produced in association with Frome workhub The Old Church School, with sessions taking place at their event space in central Frome.
Workshop leaders will include Somerset blacksmith Alex Pole Ironwork, internationally acclaimed Frome woodworker EJ Osborne of Hatchet + Bear, Frome printmakers Chris Pig of Black Pig Studio and many more. Workshop participants will have a chance to get to grips with the basics of each craft, and in a few hours create something to take home.
The team behind The Frome Independent came up with Night School to celebrate the range of inspirational makers showcased at the market and give people the opportunity to get hands-on experience of a new skill.
Tabitha Clayson, Director of The Frome Independent hopes that participants will discover the joy of hand-making objects and learning with locally sourced experts.
She said, “We are lucky to have some incredible makers trading with us at The Frome Independent. Night School is a unique opportunity for participants to get to know them and what they do best, whilst being inspired to have a go at a creative skill in a supportive and social atmosphere.”
Spaces at each Night School workshop are limited, allowing participants to have lots of support form the course leader. Course places are priced between £25 and £35, with discounts for The Frome Independent’s Market Makers and members of The Old Church School.
