Members of Frome Youth Choir are eagerly anticipating the start to their new year of music-making and looking forward to welcoming lots of new members who signed up over the summer.
The choir is for young people from Frome and surrounding areas aged 6-14 years and is run by musical director Steph Collishaw, who has been a music teacher for over 23 years.
She said, “We sing lots of different music, learning pieces by ear and through games and fun exercises. The choir’s aim is to support young people’s musical understanding and appreciation of their own and each other’s voices. It’s a great way to develop concentration and focus, whilst still having fun and meeting new people.
“We have some wonderful music to share with our young singers this term and will be preparing for our special Christmas concert on Sunday 2nd December – it’s one of the highlights of the year for me and the children.
“There are a few spaces left for children wishing to join us this term, but they are limited. Anyone interested in joining, can contact me by email youthchoir frome@gmail.com or via the Frome Youth Choir Facebook page www.face book.com/FromeYouth Choir. The first session is free for new members and rehearsals start on Thursday 20th September.
“The choir meets weekly during term time in the Steiner School on Park Road from 5.15pm (for a 5.30pm start) to 6.45pm. A term costs £44 for 11 sessions (that includes a rehearsal on the day of the concert) and also includes a drink and snack at each session.”
