THIS week saw a great game played by Frome Ladies’ First Team against a strengthened Bath Bucs 4s.
Starting the game in the unusually hot hockey weather, both teams had a point to prove. Early on, the game saw the loss of Frome’s defender Becky Ball through an unlucky ball in the face, leaving Frome with 11 players for the rest of the game.
Both teams showed great passages of attacking play, with great links from the back to the front. Hollie Withey showed great defensive strength, stopping everything that came at her. This game also saw the return of fan favourite Rachel ‘Chedge’ Stokes at the back, who looked like she had not missed a game.
Into the second half Frome looked favourite to score through a great run by Becky McKinder. Bath held off Frome’s efforts and then opened the scoring with strike in the D. Karen Moore looked likely to secure Frome an equaliser after getting herself in front of goal, but it was not meant to be. The game ended Frome XI 0 Bath Bucs 4s 1. Players of the match: Rachel Stokes and Lucy Townsend.
As said by Jo Brooks-Scully, ‘although we lost I feel like we’ve won with that performance.’
